Old Newsboys newspaper sales fundraiser

Dan Walsh and Tom Burke and their team are again organizing our division’s participation in the annual Syracuse Media Group’s Old Newsboys newspaper sales fundraiser, which will be held on Friday, December 5th (8:00 am - 5:00 pm) and Saturday, December 6th (8:00 am - Noon).  A team will also be selling papers in the Armory Square area and several other locations from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Friday.

Those who would like to sell papers can contact Dan by phone or email to let him know when they’re available. Paper distribution on both days will be at the Tops Market in Camillus, near Walmart. Refreshments will be served at Nibsy's Pub on Saturday around Noon, when we conclude.

Raffle tickets will also be sent out by mail sometime in November.  Anyone who does not receive tickets by mail and would like to buy them can also contact Dan.

The need for volunteers is particularly great during the day on Friday. Each year, fellow Division members and their family and friends volunteer their time and energy for this great fundraiser, which is sponsored by the United Way and the Salvation Army. The money raised is donated to the Christmas Bureau to buy toys for Onondaga County children and to help families in need during the holiday season. For many years, the AOH Syracuse Division has been the leading fundraising team! If you’re interested in lending a hand, please contact Dan or Tom:

The AOH Syracuse Division’s Holiday Party will be held in the Persian Terrace room of the Marriott Syracuse Downtown.  Here are the details: 

• Date:  Friday, January 9th, 2026
• Time: 
  • Cocktail reception:  5:00 pm ‐ 6:00 pm 
  • Dinner:  6:00 pm 
• Entertainment will include a band (Flyin’ Column) and Irish dancers 
• Total cost for dinner and entertainment:  $65/adult or $15/child (please make checks payable to ‘AOH Syracuse Division’) 
• RSVP by Friday, January 2nd;  Tickets will NOT be sold after the RSVP date and will NOT be sold at the door
• Hotel room cost:  $149/night (make room reservations directly with the hotel);  Cut-off date is Monday, December 29th
• Adult dinner menu: 
  • Rolls
  • Baby green salad ‐ with grape tomato, radish and red wine vinaigrette
  • Duet plate of beef sirloin and roasted chicken breast
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Apple pie ala mode
  • Coffee service:  regular, decaf and assorted teas
• The following options will be available: 
  • Kid's meal (chicken fingers and french fries)
  • Vegetarian (eggplant parmesan, served with pasta)
