WILLIE FARROLL MEMORIAL
CEREMONIES - TULLY, NEW YORK
(Saturday, November 15th, 2003)

On Saturday, November 15th, 2003 at 11:00 am, a special Mass was held at St. Leo's Church in Tully, New York in honor of Willie Farroll. Willie was the 27-year-old Irishman who was murdered in that village in 1820. Unfortunately, Willie died without having received his Last Rites and was buried in unconsecrated ground in the nearby Town Cemetery. During the Fall of 2003, he was posthumously made a member of the AOH Syracuse Division. Out of respect for Willie's memory, AOH members spent considerable time refurbishing his grave stone.

After the Mass, Father Carey (of St. Leo's Church) and Piper Dane Connelly lead AOH Syracuse Division members and others the short distance to the Town Cemetery in order to consecrate Willie’s grave. Both the American and Irish flags were proudly carried during the procession. Lunch and entertainment were provided by the AOH Syracuse Division at the nearby Hill and Dale Restaurant following the ceremonies.

A special thanks deservedly goes to AOH Syracuse Division Historian Geordy Austin and Treasurer Dan Case for their hard work and dedication in organizing this great event.

Also, as a result of AOH Syracuse Division member John Comerford’s video-recording of the ceremonies, our Division has DVD copies of this event available for $10. Proceeds from the DVD sales will be used for future maintenance of Mr. Farroll’s grave site/grave stone. The Onondaga County Historical Society, the Tully Historical Society, and Father Cary were presented with copies for archival purposes. On Sunday, March 14th, 2004, a few AOH Syracuse Division members laid a wreath next to Willie's grave stone to mark the anniversary of his death.
