CNY IACI PROGRAM:
IRISH WAY

The Irish Way Program is a four-week long "study abroad" contact-program of immersion in Irish culture conducted entirely in Ireland and intended primarily for American high school students. The program usually admits 80 - 100 students from all across the United States each year. Each student’s experience in Ireland is divided basically into three parts. There are two weeks of formal classes in Irish history, literature, art, language, and traditional music and dance, as well as instruction in sports such as Gaelic football, hurling, and soccer. There is a one-week family stay in which each student is the guest of an Irish family chosen from a group of volunteer families pre-screened and selected by the Irish Way program throughout Ireland. During the remaining week the student body is separated into smaller groups with staff counselors for travel by mini-bus to various sites of historical and cultural interest throughout the country. The Irish teaching and touring staff is composed mainly of secondary school teachers in the Irish school system. The Board of the CNY IACI will announce the 2007 Irish Way scholarship winner at the annual picnic on Tuesday, June 19th, 2007.
